Take a right off the square to arrive back on Piazza Jacopone, where Via Mazzini leads you up past the Teatro Comunale (the Municipal Theater, designed by Carlo Gatteschi in 1876, 758-942206) to the marvelous Piazza del Popolo, the heart of Todi since Roman times, and the focal point of the town’s major sites. The Duomo, dates back to the early 12th century when the delicate façade decorations were added to the cross-shaped walls. But if you think the exterior is beautiful, the interior, shown above, is even more so, embellished with classic sculptures, majestic paintings and splendid stained-glass windows, including the magnificent central rose window that was added in the 16th century.
